EMDR Therapy California

My Why Story

Much of what I recall from early life involved longing and loneliness. In my childhood home, I was the scapegoat, always to blame. Over time, I began to believe that everything was my fault. My childhood experiences led to frequent emotional triggers in my teens and early adult life. At the time, I did not realize what I now know to be true:

I was triggered because of unresolved trauma responses from my past that were still hanging around.

Although it is easy to look back now and realize that my childhood was a big part of my “why,” I did not know I wanted to be a therapist until I took my first psychology class. When my career began as a school counselor, I had the opportunity to support kids through their struggles. Quickly, I discovered my true passion: working with chronic trauma survivors.

I was initially trained in traditional talk therapy (most therapists are). It was not until I experienced EMDR for myself that everything changed.

My first EMDR therapy session felt like someone had finally turned the lights on.

EMDR transformed how I saw my healing, and I wanted to share that with my clients. The most powerful part of this work is witnessing clients realize they are not to blame and that how they learned to survive does not reflect their worth. Healing is not just about understanding the past—it is about creating real, lasting change. And that’s what I help my clients do.

I am dedicated to supporting you in making lasting changes that allow you to step out of survival mode and into a life where you feel safe, valued, and in control. Together, we will process the impact of trauma and build the skills needed to approach relationships and daily life with confidence.

3 Reasons To Choose Therapy with Lisa

Reason No.1

We have fun, even in trauma therapy. That’s not something you hear often, but it’s important. While the work isn’t always easy, we still find moments to laugh and connect in session. A fun skill of mine is recalling song lyrics- whether it’s a hit from the 1970s or something much more recent. Even if I’ve only heard a song a few times, I can usually remember the lyrics almost perfectly. This makes the use of music in the session especially interesting.

Reason No.2

I am an EMDR expert, and I don’t say that lightly. I’ve spent years training, conducted hundreds of sessions, and logged countless hours in consultation and advanced training. I know EMDR, and when it comes to trauma, that matters. If you’re looking for an EMDR therapist in Los Angeles or an EMDR therapist in California, I will be able to meet your needs.

Reason No.3

I know how to tailor EMDR to unique needs, including neurodivergent populations. Effective EMDR for neurodivergent clients is not one size fits all; it requires specialized knowledge of both neurodivergence and EMDR. As a neurodivergent therapist and a doctoral researcher studying treatment approaches for autistic women, I know how to create a therapy experience that truly meets the needs of neurodivergent clients.
